Fairfield Lady Lions roll past Ripley
It was another beautiful day for softball, as the Fairfield Lady Lions traveled to Ripley Middle School on the banks of the Ohio River in Aberdeen to play their Southern Hills Athletic Conference opponent, the Ripley Lady Blue Jays. The Lady Lions’ high-powered offense continued in high gear Tuesday afternoon as they routed the Ripley Lady Blue Jays (1-12, 1-7 SHAC), 26-5, pounding out 23 hits.
Caitlyn Quickle was the winning pitcher, throwing her fifth consecutive victory allowing no runs on three hits in her three innings of work. Katelyn Chambliss pitched the last two innings in relief of Quickle.
Fairfield (11-5, 6-2 SHAC) took the early lead with six runs in the top of the first inning. Fairfield sent 10 batters to the plate and collect six hits. The Lady Lions added two more runs in the top of the second inning. Jobey Hattan singled and stole second base, Carly Sanders had an RBI single to drive in Hattan and Chambliss singled to drive in Sanders.
Fairfield plated eight more runs on five hits to balloon the score to 16-0. Ally Maynard, Caitlyn Quickle and Rilee Quickle had singles in the inning. Sanders and Chambliss had doubles.
Caitlyn Quickle pitched the first three innings of the game, giving up three hits, no runs and had three strikeouts.
The Lady Lions scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ripley rallied for five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 18-5.
Fairfield rebounded to score eight runs in the top of the fifth inning on nine hits. Key hits in the inning were a triple by Caitlyn Quickle and doubles by Chambliss and Maynard.
Chambliss retired the Lady Blue Jays in order in the bottom of the fifth inning to seal the win.
Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Rilee Quickle (2-for-3, double, 2 runs, 4 RBI), Jobey Hattan (3-for-4, 4 runs, 2 RBI), Caitlyn Quickle (3-for-4, triple, 3 runs, 4 RBI), Emmi Vance (2-for-4, 2 run, 3 RBI), Carly Sanders (3-for-5, 3 runs, 4 RBI), Katelyn Chambliss (4-for-5, 2 doubles, 3 runs, 4 RBI), Addison Bales (1-for-4, 2 runs), Sydney Hooper (2-for-3, 3 runs, 1 RBI) and Ally Maynard (3-for-4, double, 2 runs, 3 RBI).
Caitlyn Quickle (9-4) picked up the win for Fairfield. Quickle’s pitching line: 3 innings, 3 hits, no runs, no earned run, no walks, 3 strikeouts. Chambliss pitching line: 2 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned runs, no walks, 1 strikeout.
Abigail Taylor (0-1) suffered the loss for Ripley. Taylor’s pitching line: 5 innings, 23 hits, 26 runs, 25 earned runs, 6 walks, 1 strikeouts.
The Fairfield Lady Lions continue Southern Hills Athletic Conference play on Thursday (Thursday) as they host the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats. Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
