Fairfield Lady Lions defeat Miami Trace Lady Panthers

It was a cold and windy Friday afternoon (April 5) at the Fairfield Baseball/Softball Complex, but the Fairfield Lady Lions were red-hot as they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to a 15-5 victory over the Miami Trace Lady Panthers.  

Fairfield winning pitcher Caitlyn Quickle started the game in the circle and shut out the Lady Panthers in the first three innings on no hits while striking out five batters. Katelyn Chambliss pitched the last two innings to pick up the save.

Quickle was also the leading hitter for Fairfield, going 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four RBI. 

Fairfield exploded for 10 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the first inning as Rilee Quickle singled, Caitlyn Quickle singled, Emmi Vance singled, Carly Sanders singled, Chambliss singled, Addison Bales was hit by pitch and Alyssa Bales was safe on a field choice to knock in a run. The first inning continued as Rilee Quickle walked, Jobey Hattan singled, Caitlyn Quickle singled and Vance doubled.

The Lady Lions scored two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, starting with one out, Hattan singled and raced around the bases to score on an outfielder’s throwing error. Caitlyn Quickle doubled and gave way to courtesy runner Whitlee Morrow, who stole third base and scored on a single up the middle by Carly Sanders.

Miami Trace scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Fairfield added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sydney Hooper walked, Hattan singled and Caitlyn Quickle singled.

The Lady Panthers, again, scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 14-5, but Fairfield ended the game early with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Carly Sanders singled to lead off the inning and later score on a single up the middle off the bat of Addison Bales to knock in Sanders.

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Rilee Quickle (1-for-3, two runs), Hattan (3-for-4, three runs, three RBI), Caitlyn Quickle (4-for-4, double, three runs, four RBI), Vance (2-for-4, double, one run, one RBI), Sanders (3-for-4, two runs, one RBI), Chambliss (2-for-3, one run), Addison Bales (1-for-3, one run, two RBI) and Alyssa Bales (one run, one RBI).   

Caitlyn Quickle (3-2) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield, as she pitched three innings, allowing no hits, no runs, no earned runs, as she allowed one walk, and collected five strikeouts. 

Chambliss pitched two innings, allowing eight hits, five runs (four earned) with no walks and three strikeouts.
