Fairfield falls to Lakewood

Playing at Marietta College against the Lakewood (Hebron) Lancers on Saturday afternoon, the Fairfield Lady Lions lost the non-conference game by a 51-39 score in the River City High School Classic.
Fairfield trailed 7-2 after the first quarter, and after being outscored 15-9 in the second, it was Lakewood Hebron leading 22-11 at halftime.
The second half included Fairfield winning the third quarter at 15-11 for a score of 33-25 with Lakewood Hebron in the lead. LHS won the fourth frame at 18-13 for their 12-point win over the Lady Lions.
Fairfield’s leading scorer was Meri Jackson with 16 points, as she made four two-point buckets and was 8-of-13 from the free-throw line.
Paisley Stahlhut was next in scoring for the Lady Lions with seven points as she sank a 3-pointer, one two-point basket and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Isabelle Hale finished with six points for Fairfield, making a two-point basket and going 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. FHS had five points scored by Vivian Henninger, who sank a two-point basket and was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Lions also saw Rilee Quickle total three points off a 3-pointer, and scoring two points in the game was Landyn Hodson off two made free throws on two attempts. FHS totaled as a team two 3-pointers, seven two-point baskets, and they were 18-of-26 from the free-throw line.
Lakewood Hebron (5-4) was led by Hallie Layne with 16 points as she made one 3-pointer, five two-point baskets and three free throws. She was followed by Jaylie Maas with 12 points, as Maas totaled three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and three free throws.
Other Lakewood scoring included: Anna Crist (3), Lyla Brunner (9), Riley Byers (5), Josie Lynch (2) and Audree Litz (2).
Totals for Lakewood included three 3-pointers, 15 two-point baskets, and they were 10-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Fairfield now stands at 6-3 overall, as they have a SHAC Division II record of 3-2 this season.
FHS is scheduled to play again Saturday, Jan. 3 against the East Clinton Astros at home in the Chad Hodson Classic at 4:15 p.m. at Grandle Gymnasium in Leesburg.
