Fairfield falls to host Eastern in SHAC action

The Fairfield Lions dropped a Southern Hills Athletic Conference contest Tuesday night on the road, falling to the Eastern Warriors by a 62-53 score at Eastern High School.
Fairfield was without head coach Quentin Willams, who was unable to coach the game on Tuesday. The Lions led after the first frame at 13-11, but Eastern answered with a 17-13 second quarter for a halftime lead of 28-26.
In the third frame, FHS outscored the Warriors 13-12, but still trailed at 40-39 after three quarters. Eastern won the fourth frame at 22-14, sending them to a nine-point win over the Lions.
The Lions were led in scoring by Brody Smith with 27 points. Smith finished with two two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and he went 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Smith made two 3-pointers in the first, second and fourth frames.
Griffin Friend followed with 16 points as his points came from two 3-pointers, three two-point baskets and he was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
The Lions also had four points scored by Quentin McIntosh, and three points each by Caleb Rice and Layne Burgess, as both players made a 3-pointer.
In all for the Lions, their team totals included eight two-point baskets, 10 3-pointers, and they finished 7-of-9 from the free-throw line in the loss.
Eastern was led by Carter Cluxton with 20 points, as Cluxton sank four 3-pointers and four two-point baskets. Chase Pinkerton totaled 12 points with six two-point baskets.
Scoring 11 points was Matt Dick as he made five two-point baskets and one free throw. Braxton Vance ended the game with 11 points as he was 9-of-12 from the free-throw line and he made a two-point basket.
The Warriors also had four points from Sam Ramer and four points scored by Kayne Dotson.
Team totals for Eastern included 17 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, 31 rebounds (11 offensive), eight assists, five steals and two blocks.
The Lions now stand at 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Div. II SHAC standings. Eastern improves to 2-0 overall, as they are 2-0 in the SHAC Div. I standings.
