Fairfield falls to Greeneview at VA Memorial Stadium
For just the third time this season, the Fairfield Lions suffered a loss on the diamond, as they fell in a non-conference game to Greeneview by an 8-4 score at VA Memorial Stadium.
Fairfield was the home team on the scoreboard, and after two innings where Greeneview scored three runs in the first and four runs in the top of the second, it was Fairfield trailing 7-0.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning, and the Lions added two runs in bottom of the fifth, then one last run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lions totaled five hits in the loss, but committed three errors. Greeneview finished with six hits and had two errors.
Zane Matthews was 1-for-4 at the plate with a triple and one RBI for the Lions. Others with a hit were Gabe Fouch (1-for-1, two walks, one run, one steal), Landry Hattan (1-for-2, two RBI, a walk, SAC), Wyatt Willey (1-for-2, one walk) and Wyatt Collins (1-for-3, one run).
Also for the Lions, Dow Moon scored a run, had one RBI and drew a walk. Wyatt Harner also forced a walk, and Owen Larrick scored a run.
Matthews was charged with the loss, pitching six innings, allowing eight runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks. He finished with six strikeouts, throwing 100 pitches, 64 for strikes and he faced 30 batters.
Noah Allering pitched one inning, allowing no runs on no hits or walks. He struck out one batter, throwing a total of 12 pitches, seven for strikes, and facing three batters.
The Lions now stand at 9-4 overall this season, following a loss to Eastern on Tuesday.
