Fairfield falls by 1 run against Eastern; gains win against Notre Dame

Facing Southern Hills Athletic Conference opponent Eastern Brown, the Fairfield Lions lost via walk-off against the host Warriors by a 7-6 score at EHS.
The SHAC game began with the Lions taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, then a two-run lead after a run scored in the top of the third. Eastern tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the third at 2-2.
FHS rallied with two more runs in the top of the fourth, but the Warriors answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 5-4 score.
Fairfield continued to battle with two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead, but two final runs scored by the Warriors in the bottom of the seventh gave them the walk-off victory over Fairfield.
The Lions totaled five hits and had four errors. Eastern finished the game with nine hits and four errors.
Fairfield had five players with one hit each as Caleb Rice finished 1-for-2 with two runs, a HBP, two steals and one walk, with his hit being a double.
Ben Miller was 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI, a triple and a sac fly.
Weston Baldwin ended the day at 1-for-4 with two RBI. Greyson Abbott went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Cam Caudill was 1-for-3. Also for the Lions, Cameron Miller scored a run, while Van Bennington finished with one run and a walk. Anderson Humphreys was hit by a pitch.
Cameron Miller pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts. Ben Miller pitched 2.2 innings where he allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts.
Eastern moves to 3-7 in the SHAC Div. I standings and 4-10 overall.

The Fairfield Lions bounced back on Tuesday, May 5 as they earned a road win against the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans by a 14-11 score.
Fairfield led 1-0 after the first inning, but NDHS held a 3-2 lead at the conclusion of the third as the Lions added a run in the top of the inning, but the Titans scored three runs.
Fairfield scored three runs in the top of the fourth, but the Titans regained the advantage with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the sixth, the Lions exploded for nine runs and the lead, and they held Notre Dame to two runs in the bottom of the sixth, then each team was scoreless in the seventh.
Fairfield finished with six hits and they had two errors, while Notre Dame finished with nine hits and four errors.
Cam Caudill led the Lions at 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and one walk. Cameron Miller was 1-for-4 with three runs and a walk. Zane Collins went 1-for-4 with a run.
Anderson Humphreys was 1-for-4 with one run, one RBI and a walk. Greyson Abbott finished with a run, one RBI and a walk. Caleb Rice had two runs and one RBI. Ben Miller finished with two runs, two RBI and three walks.
Weston Baldwin ended the day with one RBI and a walk. Spencer Hurless scored a run and collected an RBI.
The Lions also had Ben Miller, Hurless and Baldwin all hit by a pitch. Ben Miller and Rice each had two steals.
Humphreys pitched 3.1 innings in the game, while teammate Collins had the win with 3.2 innings and two strikeouts.
The Lions are now 5-6 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 7-13 overall.
