Fairfield baseball earns wins against Ripley, North Adams in consecutive days
The Fairfield Lions added two more wins to their overall total on Monday and Tuesday, earning Southern Hills Athletic Conference wins over North Adams and Ripley, giving them a seven-game winning streak.
Monday’s win at North Adams (April 15) saw the Lions gain the shutout win by gaining 10 hits and committing no errors, while the Green Devils had two hits and no errors.
Fairfield’s 10 hits consisted of Gabe Fouch, Corbin Willey and Cody Frost each having two hits. Fouch finished 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
Willey was 2-for-3 with one run, a home run, one walk and two RBI. Frost finished 2-for-2 with one run and two RBI in the five-inning game.
Cade Miller ended the game 1-for-2 with two runs, two walks and one RBI. Wyatt Willey was 1-for-2 with a run, two RBI and a walk. There was also Carson Chandler for Fairfield finishing 1-for-4 with a run.
The Lions also had Blaine Fauber going 1-for-4 with a run and RBI. Otis Cockerill collected a run, one RBI and a walk. Wyatt Willey, Zane Matthews (three) and Frost all were hit by a pitch. Miller had the lone steal for the Lions.
Matthews was the winning pitcher for Fairfield, pitching all five innings. He allowed no runs in the shutout, two hits, one walk and struck out six batters. Matthews threw 62 pitches, 40 for strikes.

On Tuesday (April 16) the Lions continued their scoring spree, defeating the Ripley Blue Jays, 17-4 in another five-inning game.
The Lions scored runs early, as they had a six-run bottom of the first inning and followed that up with an eight-run second inning. They added two runs in the third and one final run in the fourth inning. Fairfield finished with 13 hits and two errors.
Ripley scored one run in the top of the second, and three runs in the top of the fifth. The Blue Jays for the game collected two hits and three errors.
Gabe Fouch was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, as he hit a triple in the win.
Cade Miller was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, while Carson Chandler also had two hits at 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, one walk and three RBI.
Having one hit for Fairfield were Zane Matthews (1-for-1, one run, two RBI, one walk), Corbin Willey (1-for-2, one run, one RBI, one walk), Wyatt Willey (1-for-3, three runs, one walk), Cody Frost (1-for-2, two runs, one walk), Blaine Fauber (1-for-2, a double, one run, two RBI) and Corey Zimmerman (1-for-2, one run, one RBI).
Also for the Lions, Caleb Rice scored a run, and Nolan Campbell scored a run. Corbin Willey, Matthews, Campbell and Rice all were hit by a pitch. Fouch, Wyatt Willey, Matthews (three), Chandler, Frost, Campbell and Rice each recorded steals.
Corbin Willey was the winning pitcher for Fairfield, as he allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks, while also having 11 strikeouts. Willey threw 81 pitches, 52 for strikes.
The two wins moved Fairfield to 9-2 overall.
