Fairfield adds another SHAC win; defeats Fayetteville by five runs

Tuesday (April 9) saw the Fairfield Lions add another Southern Hills Athletic Conference win to their overall total as they defeated the visiting Fayetteville Rockets, 8-3 at FHS.

The Lions led 4-1 after their four-run second inning, then added three more runs in the bottom of the third. With the Lions holding a 7-1 lead, Fairfield and the Rockets each scored a run in the fourth inning for a Lions lead of 8-2. Fayetteville scored one final run in the top of the fifth.

Fairfield, once again, had standout pitching from Cade Miller, who in six innings allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks. Miller finished with 14 strikeouts for the SHAC victory, throwing 110 pitches, 70 for strikes. 

Heath Flint pitched one inning for the Lions, allowing no hits or runs, striking out two batters on 12 pitches (nine for strikes). 

Fairfield totaled five hits and walked five times in their win on Tuesday. Miller led the Lions at the plate, going 2-of-3 with one run and three RBI as he hit a double. 

Zane Matthews was 1-for-3 with one RBI, and Carson Chandler finished 1-for-2 with a run and one RBI. Corey Zimmerman went 1-for-3 with a run and one walk. 

Also drawing walks for the Lions were Gabe Fouch, Wyatt Willey and Cody Frost (three runs, two walks). The Lions also had Blaine Fauber score two runs and have one RBI. 

The Lions are now 6-2 overall this season, with a SHAC record of 2-2.

WHS is scheduled to play again on Thursday, April 11 at home vs. the Whiteoak Wildcats in SHAC competition at 5 p.m.
