2026 Baseball Preview: Fairfield Lions

It is time for a new season of Fairfield Lions baseball, and with 2026 being head coach Kyle Zimmerman's fifth season at the helm of the program, the Lions are looking to add to their 10 wins from the ’25 season. 

Fairfield finished 10-10 last year, going 1-1 in the postseason and 7-5 in the Division II of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference where they were runners-up in their division of the conference. 

The Lions’ roster has two seniors, five juniors, four sophomores and four freshmen.

Seniors for the Fairfield Lions are Ben Miller (OF/P) and Zach Ahsaruk (OF/IF). 

Ahsaruk in ’25 as a junior played in 20 games with 52 at-bats where he collected 11 runs, 10 hits (one double), nine RBI and seven steals. 

Miller last season during his junior year played in 14 games where his totals included 40 ABs, where he collected 10 runs, eight hits (four doubles), 12 RBI and four steals. On the mound Miller pitched 17.2 innings (five games) where he was 3-0 with 33 strikeouts. 

The junior class consists of Greyson Abbott (OF), Caleb Rice (CF/IF), Zane Collins (IF/OF), Cameron Miller (IF/P) and Van Bennington (IF/P).

Cameron Miller in ’25 played in 20 games with 67 ABs, and his totals were 19 runs, 15 hits (two doubles), nine RBI and five steals. As a pitcher in ’25, Miller in seven games pitched 27.1 innings, where he was 3-2 with 34 strikeouts. 

Rice during his sophomore season a year ago totaled 20 games played with 53 ABs, 15 runs, nine hits (four doubles), three RBI and 12 steals. 

Sophomores for the Lions are Spencer Hurless (OF/1B), Anderson Humphreys (IF/P), Parker Pierce (C/OF) and Joel Matthews (OF). 

Humphreys in ’25 as a freshman played in 14 games and in his 32 ABs scored four runs with eight hits and three RBI.

Freshmen new to the program this season are Cam Caudill (OF/IF), Kamden Luschek (OF/IF), Keenan White (OF/IF) and Weston Baldwin (C/IF). 

Fairfield’s non-conference opponents this season are: vs. Greeneview, vs. Paint Valley, at Portsmouth Clay, at McClain, at Hillsboro, vs. Wilmington, at East Clinton, at Portsmouth Notre Dame, at Washington, vs. Huntington and vs. Georgetown. 

Playing in Division II of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, the Lions will face Peebles, Fayetteville, Manchester and Whiteoak twice, and they will take on Eastern, Lynchburg-Clay, North Adams, Ripley and West Union one time each as they are in Div. I of the SHAC. 

The Lions open their ’26 season on Monday, March 30 at home against the Greeneview Rams at 5 p.m. in non-conference action. On Tuesday, March 31, they will start their SHAC season as they will travel to play the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 5 p.m at LCHS.
