Whiteoak rallies in 4th quarter to defeat Fairfield
Trailing going into the fourth quarter, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats outscored the Fairfield Lady Lions 19-11 in the final eight minutes to earn the Southern Hills Athletic Conference win, 53-47 at WHS.
Whiteoak ended the first quarter with a 13-5 lead, as the Lady ’Cats had six points from Addison Roberts in the first frame. Roberts made two two-point baskets and two free throws in the opening quarter. Also for WHS in the first was a 3-pointer by Jillian Lucas and four points by Kylee Hamm off two baskets.
The freshman Lucas led WHS with 23 points in the win, finishing the game with five 3-pointers, three two-point baskets and she was 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. Hamm finished with 13 points, totaling five two-point baskets and going 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Fairfield’s first-quarter scoring consisted of two points by Kassi Miller, two points from Vivian Henninger and a free throw made by Addison Cannon. Miller led FHS with 13 points, while Henninger totaled four points and Cannon scored five points in the game.
Fairfield came back with a strong second quarter, winning the frame 18-12 for a halftime score of 25-23 with WHS in front.
The Lady Lions’ second quarter saw Paisley Stahlhut sink a 3-pointer, Rilee Quickle score four points off two baskets, Miller make two free throws, Cannon connect with a basket for two points and Meri Jackson score seven points in the frame, including a free throw and three baskets.
For the game, Quickle and Jackson each finished with seven points.
Whiteoak’s second quarter included six points scored by Lucas off a 3-pointer, a two-point basket and a free throw, while Hamm had three points and Addy Hauke also scored three points.
WHS scored nine points in the third quarter with five points from Lucas off a 3-pointer and two-point field goal, plus two points each off baskets by Charli Hauke and Roberts. Roberts ended the game with nine points, finishing with three two-point baskets and three free throws, as she was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Fairfield in the third had six points scored by Miller off two 3-pointers, a 3-pointer from Isabelle Hale and two points each from Henninger and Cannon. Hale finished the game with eight points.
The fourth quarter for Whiteoak and their 19-point effort had six points from Hamm with two baskets and two made free throws, plus nine points scored by Lucas off two 3-pointers, a two-point basket and a free throw. The quarter also saw Roberts make a free throw and a 3-pointer by Torie Potts.
Fairfield’s 11-point fourth frame included five points scored by Hale with a 3-pointer and two free throws, a 3-pointer by Quickle, and a 3-pointer off a shot by Miller.
In all for Whiteoak, they totaled 13 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and they were 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. Fairfield finished with 10 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers and they were 6-of-11 from the free-throw line.
The win improves Whiteoak’s season record to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the SHAC Division I standings. Fairfield moves to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the SHAC Division II standings.
