Gerold Wilkin, a member of the Highlanders Chapter 43 of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and a member of several veterans organizations, will host a “Wreaths Across America” observance Saturday, Dec. 17.

A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at noon at the Highland County Veterans Memorial at the Highland County Courthouse in Hillsboro. The ceremony is open to the public.

SAR members will also be conducting other ceremonies, including placing wreaths at the memorial at the Georgetown Veterans Home Friday, Dec. 16.

Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a national effort that grew thanks to a simple picture of wreaths laid at soldiers' graves covered with snow at Arlington National Cemetery. In addition to Arlington National Cemetery, wreaths are laid at more than 2,700 participating locations across America each December.
