Woodland, wildlife workshop March 26

It is the time of the year to do some frost seeding of clover. Clover can be broadcast onto pastures and hayfields during February. This method of frost seeding can be done when the ground is solid either with a tractor or about any time with a spinner seeder on the back of an ATV.
The ground freezes and thaws often during the month of February, and this will cause the soil to honeycomb. The honeycomb appearance permits the seed to get into the soil. Other crops have not been as successful using this method. For more information, contact your local OSU Extension Office.
As most of you probably know by now – although I have talked recently with farmers in the area that did not know as of yet – I am now covering Adams, Brown and Highland counties.
Please call and leave a message at your local office and I will get back to you when I am in your county. You can also contact me by e-mail at dugan.46@osu.edu. The phone numbers for the three offices are in Adams County, 544-2339; in Brown County, 378-6716; and in Highland County, 393-1918.

Grape pruning workshop
Last year, the Brown County Master Gardeners made an attempt to prune and clean up the vineyard that was left at the old location of the Southern Branch of OARDC in Ripley when the operation closed a few years ago. The purpose of the project was to use the vines for educational training.
The master gardeners learned during the year about how to prune and they will share some of the information with the public on Thursday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m. You will need to bring your own pruners. You need to bring by-pass pruners and gloves. The program will last a little over an hour or so. Should we have rain that day listen to local radio stations. We will make the call if we are going to postpone by 3 p.m. on the 10th. If we do need to postpone, a rain date has been scheduled for March 14.
