Wilmington College to host April 22 Earth Day Food Symposium

Wilmington College will present a food symposium Thursday, April 22 on topics surrounding the theme "Food and Farming for the Future: Eat Healthy/Grow Responsibly."
The following is a schedule of the day's events:
10 a.m. - A media tour with stops at several of the exhibits and access to Dennis Avery and Martin Yan will commence at 10 a.m. from the Alumni Office at 113 College St. (Galvin House), Wilmington, OH 45177.
1 p.m. - Film director Aaron Woolf will speak on "Nudge Our Food System in a Different Direction," in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre. Woolf is the producer/director of the acclaimed film "King Corn: You Are What You Eat."
2:30 p.m. - Master chef Martin Yan will present a "Garden Fresh Chinese Cuisine" cooking demonstration highlighting healthy eating practices in Kelly Center. Yan is the celebrated host of more than 1,500 cooking shows, including the Emmy Award-winning "Yan Can Cook."
7:30 p.m. - Dennis Avery, from the Hudson Institute Center for Global Food Issues, will speak on "Feeding the Future, Sustainably" in Heiland Theatre. He is the author of the book Saving the Planet with Pesticides and Plastic: The Environmental Triumph of High-Yield Farming.
Also, a daylong photography exhibit in Harcum Gallery will highlight images from photojournalist Peter Menzel¹s acclaimed book, "The Hungry Planet: What the World Eats."
Among other related activities is "World Farming," an outdoor display of farm equipment representing what is used for farming a single acre in China to 10,000 acres in southwest Ohio.
