Wilmington artists to be featured in bookstore exhibit

Kathy Barrett and Linda Johnston, longtime friends and Wilmington residents, will be featuring a variety of their paintings at Books 'N' More during the month of May.
The paintings include landscapes, florals, abstracts and figurative paintings in a variety of mediums.
Barrett and Johnston both started painting at the same time at Steven’s Art and have since been associated with various artists in the local area, learning as they go and creating their own ideas and dreams on canvas.
Johnston's paintings are sometimes whimsical, sometimes complicated and intricate. She currently has a Fairy Tree displayed in the City Building windows on S. South Street, Wilmington and has shown at the Clinton County Historical Society, North South Studios, Highland District Hospital, Traditions Window, the annual Brush & Palette Art Show at Southern State Community College in Hillsboro and the Pump House in Chillicothe. Johnston is a member of the Wilmington Community Arts Collaborative (Wilmington), and The Brush & Palette Art Guild (Hillsboro).
Barrett is making her art show debut. She has a simplistic style, using rich colors to create a gripping focal point that draws you right into the subject matter. Focusing on animals, silhouettes and landscapes, Kathy puts her heart in each painting.
An opening reception is planned at Books ‘ N’ More, 28 West Main Street, Wilmington on May 3 from 3-5 p.m. The show will run through May 27.
