What’s Going On at the Greenfield Library: September is Library Card Sign-up Month

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the staff at the Greenfield Library would like to remind parents that your children need to have the “smartest card” in their wallets – a library card.
Please bring your kindergarten-age or older children to the front desk and sign them up for a card if they don’t already have one. The only requirement is that their parent must have a library card in good standing within the Highland County system. If a parent needs a card, we will be happy to oblige. Bring in a picture ID and one other piece of identification showing your current address. That’s all it takes.

To encourage our young patrons to have and use their library cards, children who sign up for a new card during the month of September will get a grab bag of goodies. We will also have a “Library Super Power” contest they can complete and be entered to win a prize. If our teen readers complete our Teen Titan Trivia Contest, they will be entered into a prize drawing, and all adults using their library card to check out will be entered into a drawing as well. The contests will run from Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Saturday, Sept. 23. Come in and join in the fun.
The Highland County libraries will be closed Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Please feel free to use our outside book drop to return items.
Our story times resume on Tuesday, Sept. 19 and continue every Tuesday morning. All preschool-age children and their parents are invited to join us for a time of songs, rhymes, stories and crafts. Stop by our front desk to pick up a booklet that includes this year’s dates, themes and more information.
A new Greenfield Library teen book discussion group is currently in the planning stages. The group will meet once a month, and Spencer McNeil will be the facilitator. Our first meeting will be in October, so all junior high and high school students should stop in the library or check out our Facebook group page to find out more information as it becomes available.
We will also be hosting a book talk and signing with former Greenfield resident and McClain grad Arnold Robinson on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. He has published two books of his “The Reverend’s Ways” series. He is looking forward to sharing his books and experiences with the Greenfield community, so please save the date.
The library staff hopes you will stop in to visit with us during the month of September. We look forward to seeing you soon.
