Waits promoted to 1st-degree black belt

Angel Waits of Mowrystown was recently promoted to first-degree black belt.

Waits was a student of the late master Randy Reffitt for six years and was eligible for promotion to black belt at the time of Sensei Reffitt's untimely death. Sensei Reffitt's widow told Waits, "don't quit."

Waits began her training with Master Jeff Jones and shortly reached her goal of black belt. Waits is also an excellent student and accomplished pianist.

"She excels in all that she sets her mind to," Jones said. "Congratulations for finishing this worthy task. It honors Sensei Reffitt's memory as well, because she 'didn't quit.'"
