Xenia Walking Club will host a Volkswalking event in Lynchburg on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, and the walk will be finished by 3 p.m.

The starting point is the shelter at Old School Park. There will be two 5K loops, but you are welcome to walk the distance you are comfortable with. You will be given written directions, and there will be some arrows where there is no street sign. The walk is at your own pace with friends and family.

Volkssporting came to the USA from Germany via the GI back in the 1970s. Many clubs sprang up in Ohio because of Wright Patterson AFB.

The Xenia Walking Club is honoring a Lynchburg resident, Janet Brewer, who before she retired, baked cakes for every Walking Club event in the Dayton area.

If nothing else, come out and learn about Volkswalking and have a piece of cake.
