VFW Post 9094 invites students to essay contest

Local VFW Post 9094 and Ladies Auxiliary announce the 2010 Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen essay contest. Post Commander Rick Wilkin, Ladies Auxiliary President Sherry Mills, brother/sister veterans, and their families wish to extend an invitation to students in public, private, or home school in grades 6-12 to participate in this year’s scholarship contest.
Each school year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars post award college scholarships totaling $2.5 million to students in grades 6 through 12
for writing patriotic essays nationwide.
Students writing essays that reach National Level are awarded up to $30,000 each to the college of their choice. District winners receive up to $10,000 in scholarships.
Local winners receive cash prizes from the local VFW Post 9094.
The 2010 Patriot Pen theme is “Does Patriotism Still Matter?”
Students need to write an essay of 300-400 words and submit on CD or cassette with written copy.
The Voice of Democracy theme is: “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?” Students need to submit a 3-5 minute essay on CD or cassette tape with written copy.
