CHILLICOTHE – Dr. Manoj Reddy and Dr. Joel Simmons, both radiation oncologists, have joined Adena Health System as it expands its cancer treatment capabilities and prepares for the opening of the new Adena Cancer Center.
A longtime Texan, Dr. Reddy did his undergraduate studies in Houston and completed his medicine degree at Baylor College of Medicine, also in Houston. He completed both his internal medicine internship and radiation oncology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.
He said he chose to join Adena because of its “forward-thinking approach” to cancer care and “the opportunity to build a new high quality patient-centered cancer program.”
Dr. Reddy’s special clinical interests include High Dose Rate Brachytherapy, Image Guided Radiation Therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy and Stereotactic Radiosurgery.
He said he became interested in medicine and radiation oncology while doing a research program at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as a young college student.
While working with cancer patients and their families, and interacting with cancer physicians, “I learned that I enjoyed medicine and especially helping those with cancer,” he said.
Dr. Simmons completed medical school at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, an internship at Mount Carmel West in Columbus and a residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
A native Ohioan, he said he left a busy practice in Akron for the opportunity to become part of the new $21 million, 33,000-square-foot Adena Cancer Center, which is under construction.
Dr. Simmons has a special interest in clinical trials and plans to provide patients at Adena with increased access to national clinical trials and new cancer treatments. He said he chose his specialty because of an interest in physical and computer sciences, which play a significant role in radiation oncology.
The new, freestanding Adena Cancer Center, which is scheduled to open later this year, capitalizes on an already successful program and will provide patients with a new dimension of physician-led, patient-centered care.
When completed, the center will house advanced treatment technology, including two new linear accelerators, as well as plentiful clinical areas, healing alcoves, a library and a café.
