Shakespeare will return to the Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheater, home of "Tecumseh," on Sunday, July 26, 2015.

The Scioto Society, Inc. is pleased to announce their first production of the renowned comedy “As You Like It,” which features a wise fool and a melancholy malcontent, carnal vows and a cross-dressed gal, a magical forest and a wintry court, and, to top everything off, Greco-Roman wrestling. The event will be free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

"As You Like It" is the fourth Shakespearean play to be offered by the cast and crew of "Tecumseh." In years past, company members have performed "A Midsummer Night’s Dream," "Twelfth Night" and most recently "Romeo and Juliet," with each play enjoying a unique variation on conventional themes to suit the epic sweep of the outdoor stage.

A.S. Freeman, veteran cast member and production stage manager for "Tecumseh," is excited to direct this year’s Shakespeare show.

“I think it’ll introduce a lot of fun to the 2015 season for both our patrons and our actors,” Freeman says. “The play really is a treat for everyone. It has some of the best speeches in the Shakespearean canon, and it gives our acting company even more opportunities to demonstrate their talent.”

Freeman is currently pursuing his MFA in directing at Western Illinois University. He has been seen on the "Tecumseh" stage in the role of Tompkins, and he played Romeo in the Scioto Society’s 2012 production of "Romeo and Juliet." This will be his second year working as PSM and his second time directing a main stage Shakespeare production.

"As You Like It" is one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies.

“It features elements that make it a fantastic show to accompany 'Tecumseh,'” Freeman says. “The play is very light in mood and themes, marking a nice contrast between it and the historical drama that is performed regularly on our stage. It can be put together in many fresh and interesting ways—think of it as a comical soap opera of Shakespearean proportions set in the wilderness.”

Tickets are available now at www.tecumsehdrama.com and at 866-775-0700. Tickets are free for everyone, and there is an eight-ticket limit per reservation. "As You Like It" promises to be an exciting summer event for audiences of all ages.
