Tara Campbell speaks at Highland Harvesters 4-H club meeting

The Highland Harvesters 4-H club held a meeting at the Leesburg Community Building April 16.

The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by President Leah Vance. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tyler Kinzer. The 4-H pledge was then led by Ella. Role call was called by Secretary Brooke Baldwin, who had each member reintroduce themselves for new members.

The club then welcomed Tara Campbell, who talked about how to recycle and what is allowed to be recycled. She explained why some items like batteries have to be disposed of separately, as well as other items that have to be disposed of properly. Campbell then talked about upcoming recycling events for the county and surrounding areas that we can take part in.

Demonstrations included Aubrey and Brooke Baldwin showing the do’s and don’ts of interviews. Jacob Massie talked about carburetors. Tyler showed the club how to use guitar pedals. Emily Massie showed and explained how to spike, set and pass a volleyball.

Secretary minutes from the last meeting were read by Brooke Baldwin. Aubrey Baldwin moved to accept the minutes, and the motion was seconded by Garrett Haggerty. The treasurer’s report was read by Treasurer Joel Matthews. Mia Roehm moved to accept the treasurer’s report, and Eloise Roehm seconded it. Emily Haines, Club Reporter, announced that she had submitted the last meeting’s article to The Highland County Press.

Committee reports included the Financial Review Committee chair Meri Jackson, who shared that the audit had been approved. That was seconded by Tyler Kinzer. Vice President Aubrey Baldwin read the club’s bylaws. The motion to approve the bylaws was made by Aubrey and seconded by Eve Roehm.

Old business included finalizing project book orders, where upcoming quality assurance events will be held, and more information about tag-in dates, which will be coming soon.

New business included talking about the club’s upcoming community service day at Rocky Fork Lake on Earth Day.

The motion to adjourn was made by Aubrey Baldwin and seconded by Mia Roehm. The motion passed unanimously.
