The Sugar Shack celebrates milestones with ribbon cutting

The Sugar Shack, located in downtown Hillsboro, celebrated their business’s recent milestones with a ribbon cutting from the Highland County Chamber of Commerce on Friday, March 10.
In attendance to help celebrate were family, friends, members of the community and Chamber Ambassadors, officers and staff. The Sugar Shack is owned and operated by Helen Walton and is located at 132 South High Street in Hillsboro.
The Sugar Shack carries old-fashioned candy and gum, small novelty toys with candy inside, chocolate by the piece or by the pound, taffy, soda, dip, cheese ball, soup, jellies, syrup, local honey and more.
“My son, the late Joseph Mahan, and I originally started this business 10 years ago,” said Helen Walton, owner. “Our business was formerly Bon Appetit Gourmet Shoppe & Gifts, and we have been at our present location for five years. We love serving our community and welcome customers of all ages to our little store.”

“We absolutely love how our shop can connect with our customers,” Walton said. “We often overhear customers referring to candy that they ate with their grandparents or candy they haven’t had in years.”
