Southside Praise and Worship Center honors Wayne, Shelia Flowers

Southside Praise and Worship Center recently honored longtime pastor Wayne Flowers and his wife Shelia for their service to the church and community.
Current pastor Mike Brown said that Mr. and Mrs. Flowers, of Lynchburg, have worked with the church's ministry program for approximately 25 years. Brown assumed the role as pastor of the church last year after Flowers stepped down for health reasons, but he said Mr. and Mrs. Flowers are still active in the church.
"They have been fantastic people to help and work with in the community," Brown said.

Brown said that that as foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Flowers "have seen over 150 children through their homes," including a son they adopted as their own who has been with them for 22 years.
"If you take care of 150 children through your home, that is a huge statement in itself," Brown said. "This is what type of fantastic people they are."
The church presented Mr. and Mrs. Flowers with a plaque.
"The world sees the bad, and we wanted to show something good," Brown said. "We wanted to honor them for their 25 years of service to the church, for being foster parents and for their dedication to helping others."
Southside Praise and Worship Center is located at 621 S. East St., Hillsboro.
