Samaritan Outreach Services to hold baby, toddler food distribution Sept. 28
Samaritan Outreach Services will be holding a baby and toddler food distribution on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.-noon at its pantry located at 537 N. East St. in Hillsboro.
The distribution will include Gerber Organic and Gerber Graduate foods for sitters, toddlers, and toddlers 2+. The distribution will be available to Samaritan Outreach clients or to others in the community who may qualify.
Those wishing to receive the food are asked to register in advance by calling Samaritan at 937-393-2220. Walk-ins will be accepted, but food quantities cannot be guaranteed.
“Too often, when food is provided to those in need, we don’t have any options for the babies and toddlers in the households. It’s nice for us to have a chance to provide food for all the little ones this time,” said executive director Wade Hamilton.

Samaritan operates as a charity food pantry funded primarily by community grants and private donations. Eligibility for services fall within the guidelines of federal income levels.
Samaritan was formed in 1989 by Jean Carson and her husband, the Rev. John Carson, rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Hillsboro. They, along with Michael Malony, organized religious and community leaders to discuss how best to meet human needs in the face of scarce social services in Highland County. They worked with both the Episcopal Appalachian Ministries and the Catholic Social Services in Cincinnati to create Samaritan Outreach Services.
Today, Samaritan Outreach Services is a stand-alone, non-profit organization serving the greater Highland County area.
