Ross County judge recognized as OACBHA Advocate of the Year

The Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities, which represents Ohio Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) Boards, held its annual awards luncheon Jan. 31. During the luncheon, OACBHA presented the 2019 Annual Awards to leader from throughout Ohio who have been working to ensure that community mental health and addiction services and supports are available for all Ohioans.
The OACBHA 2019 Advocate of the Year Award was presented to Judge J. Jeffrey Benson of the Ross County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile and Probate Divisions.

"Judge Benson's dedicated service on behalf of individuals and families impacted by mental illness and substance use disorder is to be commended," said Penny Dehner, Executive Director of the Paint Valley ADAMH Board. "It is time for Judge Benson to be recognized for his contributions as an advocate for those who struggle with addiction and mental illness and his ongoing efforts to partner with community organizations, including the local ADAMH board and others, to identify and address the gaps in the local system of care."
In addition to Judge Benson, OACBHA honored three other award recipients. Ohio House of Representatives Speaker Larry Householder received the Award for Legislative Excellence; RecoveryOhio Director Alisha Nelson received the President's Partnering for Quality Award; and Executive Director of Prevention Action Alliance Marcie Seidel received the CEO's award for distinguished leadership.
Paint Valley ADAMH Board is a political subdivision of state government, created in 1967 by the Ohio legislature to ensure the availability of community-based addiction and mental health services for the residents of Fayette, Highland, Pickaway, Pike and Ross counties.
