Retired teachers hear student presentations

The Highland County Retired Teachers Association held its regular meeting May 7 at the Senior Citizens Center in Hillsboro. The program for the day included speeches by three of the top high school student speakers in Highland County.

Rachel Tracy had previously won the Rotary Four-Way Test speech competition sponsored by the Hillsboro Rotary Club. She attends the Hillsboro Christian Academy, and her topic dealt with the drug problems facing society.
Alora Brown and Loraleigh Mayhan won their respective divisions in the Highland County FFA prepared speech competition. Brown discussed animal agricultural issues, and Mayhan discussed the use of GMO technology in crop production. Both of these students are members of the Hillsboro FFA chapter and students at Hillsboro High School.
Congratulations to each of these top students. The retired teachers are proud of them and thank them for their willingness to present their speeches to the group.
