Red Hat Society enjoys luncheon, entertainment at Senior Citizens Center

More than 150 members and guests attended the annual regional meeting of the Red Hat Society Monday, April 8 at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center.

Local chapter member Charleene Tarr said Red Hat Society members attended Monday's luncheon and fashion show from as far away as Lexington, Ky. and the Lake Erie area.

Senior Center Director Mechell Frost said Monday's event had a wonderful turnout.

Following the luncheon, members put on a fashion show and other entertainment, including an Olympic-style synchronized swimming event by five members from Highland County.

Ray Haynes sang The Four Lads' classic song "Standin' on the Corner" (watching' all the girls go by) as several Red Hat Society ladies walked the fashion runway. The last of the ladies even paused to kiss the singer under her stylish umbrella. That would be local Red Hat Society member Donna Haynes, Ray's wife.

The Red Hat Society is an international society dedicated to reshaping the way women are viewed in today's culture.

According to www.redhatsociety.com, the society supports and encourages women to pursue fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment of lifelong dreams and fitness. It serves as the center point for all communications and opportunities for its members offering tools, tips, discounts, services and events specifically with Red Hatters in mind.

The Red Hat Society has spent over a decade developing a strong online communication tool for members, assisting them in gaining new and exciting ways to enjoy life, sharing their unique and motivating stories and helping members find local hatters and activities they can participate in. Women over age 50 are known as "Red Hatters," while those under 50 are lovingly referred to as "Pink Hatters."
