A gallery showing was held Sunday, Oct. 7 at Highlands Nature Sanctuary to highlight the work of the sanctuary’s residency artists and 51 Rainsboro Elementary students who participated in a two-day art project last month.

During a span of two days in September, fourth- and fifth-grade students from Rainsboro Elementary spent time with the sanctuary’s five residency artists working on writing and drawing projects. The students, their teachers and the sanctuary’s residency plein-air artists and writer hiked on the sanctuary’s two trails. Students were given briefcases with supplies so they could sketch and write while they were on the trails, and art projects were taken back to the elementary school to complete.

The students’ finished poems and artwork, as well as that of the resident artists, were displayed at the fourth annual artist-in-residency gallery showing Sunday, Oct. 7 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Appalachian Forest Museum, located at 7660 Cave Road, Bainbridge.

During the event, guests viewed artwork and writings, heard poetry readings, hiked trails with a naturalist, met artists and enjoyed snacks.
