Pet food 'blessing box' installed in Rocky Fork Lake community

The Highland County Humane Society, Highland County Dog Pound and volunteer Sally Hinton recently teamed up to add another “blessing box” for area pets in the community.
As previously reported, a 24-hour “blessing box” at Stephanie’s Pet Spa in Hillsboro was installed earlier this year. An additional box allowing community members to take or share pet food with one another has now been set up at McCoppin Mill Rd and Wood Street at Rocky Fork Lake.
This local project was started by Hinton, a longtime volunteer at the Humane Society, to help individuals in need obtain food for their dogs and cats. Volunteers distribute donated dry food and treats into Ziploc bags in the blessing boxes, with a variety offered to accommodate pets’ different dietary needs.
Following the success of the first blessing box, volunteers installed the second box at Rocky Fork Lake for individuals in that area.
“It’s going really good,” Hinton said of the blessing box projects. “I want to thank everyone for their support.”
Anyone who would like to use this free resource is able to stop by the box at the lake or the box at Stephanie’s Pet Spa on East North Street in Hillsboro. To support this project, donations can be made at Stephanie’s Pet Spa; Holiday Cottages on McCoppin Mill Road; or at the Highland County Humane Society.
