Ohio presentation to be held at Highland County District Library

For a small state, Ohio has had a big impact on America. Come check your knowledge of the Buckeye State and find out a world of fascinating facts about it, on Oct. 20 at the Highland County District Library in Hillsboro. This program, designed to bring Ohio¹s dramatic, surprising, and impressive history to life, will be presented by editor Carol Cartaino and history professor Denvis Earls, the authors of "It Happened in Ohio: Remarkable Events That Shaped History," published earlier this year by the major national publisher Globe Pequot Press.

"This project really taught me that history is not a dull, dry subject to be consigned to the back shelves of the library," Cartaino says. "It is the often exciting story of the people and events that created the world - and the state - as we know it now. In the case of Ohio, this includes everything from rough and tumble frontier days, to Indian wars, the Civil War to the civil rights movement, extraordinary inventions and industrial success stories, to the natural wonders and remarkable resources of the state. Ohio has it all, from great sports triumphs to movie star stories, beloved folk heroes to legendary villains, shipwrecks to Amish buggy wrecks, geological oddities to great weather disasters, and an array of life-changing events including the Temperance Movement, the Cuyahoga River fire, and the Kent State catastrophe, to mention just a few. Since I got to pick the 32 stories that make up the book, I made sure that stories from Highland and Adams counties were included. The Ohio trivia I uncovered alone will astonish you. Come out and hear it for Ohio! You won¹t be bored."

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
