New Vienna Library to offer Magic Tree House program for New Vienna students

Lead Summary
By
Peggy Dunn-
The New Vienna Library will feature a fall program for New Vienna Elementary students in second through fifth grades. The theme will be the adventures of Jack and Anne in The Magic Tree House series, as they’re teleported to different times and faraway places around the world.

A book will be featured each of the seven weeks (Oct. 29–Dec. 15). Meet up with pirates of long ago and mystical sea serpents during the summer solstice. See mummies from ancient Egypt and dragons from old Tokyo, and learn of Jack’s thrilling ride on a Pteranodon in prehistoric time. Last but not least, catch the twosome in the Arctic, face to face with a live polar bear and emperor penguins in Antarctica.

With any Magic Tree House book read, not limited to the featured books, a leaf with the student’s name and the book title will be placed on our very own Magic Tree House tree that will sprout up in the front window in our library. Come in and see how many leaves will bud on its branches. Participants will also enter their name in a drawing for prizes.

Crafts will coincide with the weekly featured book, and a backdrop will be available for each crafter to have their photo taken. Imagine yourself dressed like a pirate on a pirate ship or wrapped like a mummy in his desert tomb.

Participants also have the option of creating their own original book cover from one of the seven books featured during the program. Details will be made known by the art teacher at the New Vienna Elementary School or by the librarians at the New Vienna Library. First-, second- and third-place ribbons will be awarded.
