New Petersburg Social Civics Club convenes in Rainsboro

The New Petersburg Social Civics Club held their April meeting at the Rainsboro United Methodist Church with Janet Lawwell as hostess.

President Debbie Robinson opened the meeting. Everyone was saddened by the death of longtime member Jane Moore. Our prayers go out to the

family.

Verla Hodson was in charge of the program, and she invited Cathy Faulconer to be our speaker. Cathy is the Diabetes Education Counselor

for Highland District Hospital. Cathy distributed several pamphlets to the ladies explaining causes and prevention of diabetes. She stated

that there are 24 million people who have diabetes and many more who don't know they have it. The main things that people can do to help

prevent diabetes to watch what you eat and to exercise.

Wanda Green had roll call and read minutes from the previous meeting. They were approved as read. Vickie Duff gave the treasurer's report.

A thank you card was received from Peggy Hamilton. Thank-yous were also received from Edgewood Manor and Domestic Violence for donations.

Vickie Duff was elected treasurer to replace Bea Mustard, who had resigned the position. Debbie Ellison was elected Assistant Treasurer.

The birthday raffle was won by Phyllis Miller and Anna Lou Lucas. Anna Lou had the contest, and it was won by Phyllis Miller. The hostess

gift was won by Verla Hodson.

Members receiving Secret Sister gifts were Margaret Crabtree, Phyllis Miller, Cora Hamilton, Wanda Greene, Debbie Robinson, Janet Lawwell, and Bea Mustard.

An array of sandwiches, fruits, cheeses and desserts graced the refreshment table, which was decorated with a spring theme.

Members present, other than those already mentioned, were Patty Detty, Glenna Ross, Ruth Ann Watts, and Nancy Caubill, guest of Cora

Hamilton.

The May meeting will be held at Fall Creek Church with Verla Hodson serving as hostess.
