Daily, new artisans are coming on board at Christmas at the Cabin, giving a cabin a fresh look each new day! Though Janny Brizius, owner of the unusual Christmas shop, does not accept the wares of all who show up, she tries to accept most local artisans as this is the main focus of the cabin-- an outlet for crafters' wares.
"It's nice to see folks returning to basic talents to help provide in this tough economic time," Janny says.
Among the new items available at the cabin are suspense novels written by Saundra Crum Akers, who sets her stories in area communities. (She has novels which take place in Bainbridge, Waverly, Sinking Spring, Chillicothe, Peebles, Greenfield, etc. -- all for sale at the cabin. Another new one, set in West Union will be out in November, and when it is released, it, too, will be available at Christmas at the Cabin. Ms. Akers lives in Columbus, but she grew up in southern Ohio and attended school in many area communities, thus explaining her interest in that part of Ohio. Area folks reading her novels are surprised to read about places that they pass by daily in their lives!
Janny says, "After learning about the author of these novels, folks are sending Ms. Akers ideas for stories based on happenings in their lives in southern Ohio. Though Ms. Akers' stories are fictional, she is very glad to receive this input!"
So, if you have a reader on your gift list, this may be a thought for an interesting present. The books are modestly priced and are very easy reads.
The novels are a departure from the usual merchandise at Christmas at the Cabin, the rest of which are very good quality hand-crafted items, both locally made and from artisans across the USA.
Christmas at the Cabin is an area tradition. Some folks say they have not had their holidays without at least one visit to The Cabin, which is located on the Cave Road, just off of US Route 50, midway between Hillsboro and Chillicothe.
