McDonald’s celebrates grand opening with ribbon cutting

McDonald’s of Hillsboro celebrated the grand opening of their newly rebuilt restaurant with a ribbon cutting with the Highland County Chamber of Commerce, along with family, friends and members of the community, on Friday, Aug. 12.
Owned and operated by Leigh Chamness with Ison Family Restaurants and located at 1474 North High Street in Hillsboro, McDonald’s has been a staple restaurant in the Hillsboro community for many decades.
The old restaurant was closed in April to begin the process for a rebuild which had been in the plans for 10 years. The new location had a soft opening on Tuesday, Aug. 9 in preparation for the grand opening.
“Ison Family Restaurants’ objectives in all the communities we serve is to feed and foster community, and this community missed us as much as we missed them,” said Leigh Chamness, owner.
Many of the staff have returned to the Hillsboro location, including their general manager, Ellie Shoemaker, who has been at the Hillsboro location since 1998.
“When we purchased this restaurant in 2018 and met general manager Ellie, we were immediately blown away,” said Chamness. “Ellie is amazing and is such a pillar in the Hillsboro community.”
After the ribbon cutting, Chamness and Shoemaker presented checks to two organizations within Highland County as part of their objective to foster community. Highland County 4-H Youth Development and the Highland County Humane Society were both recipients of donations from Ison Family Restaurants.
