Highland County Historical Society Director Vicki Knauff and Trustee and Finance Chair John Kellis accepted a $5,000 donation in memory of John McDermott on Tuesday afternoon.
Presenting the check to the society was Helen McDermott of Hillsboro.
According to Kellis, the donation was made in memory of John McDermott, who recently passed away. John and Helen McDermott’s daughter, Kris McDermott Wilkerson, told Kellis that the family was looking for a local donation. They saw the Military Room Project description on the HCHS website and thought it was perfect since her mother Helen had often volunteered at the Museum and that her father John loved local history.
