Lynchburg man installed as commander of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War

During a recent regular meeting of Henry Casey Camp 92 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the camp officers for 2022 were installed by Ohio Department Commander Dr. Richard Davis, a retired college professor from Cincinnati.
The officers installed for 2022 are: David M. Meister of Lynchburg, commander; Kelly Hopkins, senior vice commander; Charles R. Rose, junior vice commander; Shane L. Milburn, secretary; Joe D. Daugherty, patriotic instructor; Shawn A. Cox, historian and Civil War memorials officer; and Robert E. Grim, treasurer.
The department commander complimented retiring camp commander Joe D. Daugherty for his outstanding leadership and congratulated the camp members for their many successes during the year in helping preserve the history of the American Civil War and singled out camp members Cox, Milburn and Grim as former Ohio Department Commanders.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a congressionally chartered organization created in 1881 by the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and is the legal heir to the GAR. The GAR was the nation’s first real veterans organization started shortly after the Civil War by Union Army veterans.
