Lynchburg-Clay FFA, junior class team up for benefit dinner
The Lynchburg-Clay FFA and Junior Class are hosting a benefit dinner on Saturday, May 2 from 4-8 p.m. at the Lynchburg-Clay High School Cafeteria. Proceeds will benefit the Junior Class and Ben Ramsey.
Ben Ramsey, 13, is the 10th child out of 12 children of Butch and Patty Ramsey and resides in Highland County. Ben has several health issues; one which causes multiple seizures on a daily basis. Ben’s condition, Cortical Dysplasia, was caused by a birth defect. The seizures are so severe that on several occasions Ben wasn’t able to function in a normal way at all; according to his mother he has “spent many days sitting on the couch, unable to hold his head up, not speaking and drooling.”
Ben has been through two brain surgeries which has reduced the number of seizures however it has caused developmental delays and some behavioral issues. Ben also has severe allergic reactions and has been diagnosed with angioedema with an unknown trigger. He must always have an epi-pen and Benadryl with him at all times in case he would have an allergic reaction.
After doing research on how to improve Ben’s life, Patty has learned that a service dog will be a great benefit to Ben. The service dog will be able to relieve Ben of stress and alert his parents of a potential seizure and allergic triggers.

At this point, the service dog’s purchase price has been secured and a pup has been ordered in his name. In September 2016, Ben will be receiving special training with his dog in order to guarantee that the dog and Ben are a perfect match, so the dog knows and fully understands how to assist Ben during times of need.
During Ben’s training, the family will need to stay in the Xenia area in a hotel; therefore, funds are needed to assist the family during this time as both parents will need to be there.
The menu will consist of pulled beef and pork, side dishes and homemade desserts for a free will donation price.
In order to make this fundraiser a success, donations are being accepted of supplies for the dinner, monetary donations to help purchase necessary supplies or items for the Silent Auction.
