Local youths compete in livestock judging at Ohio Beef Expo

Several Highland County students recently received awards at the Ohio Beef Expo in livestock judging.
The 30th annual Beef Expo was held March 17-19 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
“This annual event, coordinated by the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association (OCA), includes a kickoff social, breed sales, shows and displays, an educational seminar, 3-day trade show and a highly competitive junior show,” according to a Beef Expo press release. “More than 30,000 visitors from 25 states and Canada routinely attend the Ohio Beef Expo. It is ranked as one of the top five largest events in central Ohio and is the premier location to meet Ohio’s cattle producers.”

Bricen Hess, a senior at Lynchburg-Clay High School, placed sixth highest Senior Individual in Livestock Judging. There were 255 participants in the Senior Division.
Highland County also had two junior livestock judging teams place at the Ohio Beef Expo.
The Highland County All-Stars #1, made up of Emma Yochum, Sydney Sanders, Gavin Puckett and Dawson Osborn, placed sixth highest team.
Highland County All-Stars #2, which includes Carly Sanders, Blake Herdman, Wyatt Osborn and Sydney Shelton, placed 12th highest team. There were 44 teams in the Junior Division.
