The following local events and tributes have been announced in recognition of Veterans Day, as compiled by Highland County Veterans Services.

Saturday, Nov. 6:
• Mowrystown American Legion Post 0694 will hold community outreach and recruiting at Rural King in Hillsboro from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
• VFW Post 9094, located at 1000 West Main Street in Hillsboro, is hosting a fish fry starting at 4:30 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 8 through Friday, Nov. 12:
• Highland County Senior Center is offering free homemade lunch for veterans only. RSVPs are required ahead of time by calling (937) 393-4745.
Wednesday, Nov. 10:
• East Clinton High School in Lees Creek will host their Veterans Day program. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 9 a.m.
Thursday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day):
• Lynchburg-Clay High School will host a Veterans Assembly. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria, with the program beginning at 9 a.m. in the gym.
• Bright Local Schools are hosting a parade and program, beginning with a Veterans Parade held by Whiteoak High School. Line-up in the softball parking lot will be held between 8:30-8:45 a.m. The parade will start at 9 a.m. and lead to Bright Elementary for their veterans program, which will start at 9:30 a.m.
• Hillsboro High School will hold a dedication for a new veterans monument, with a program starting at 9:15 a.m.
• The Highland County Historical Society will hold an “Honoring Our Heroes” tribute at the C.S. Bell at 10:45 a.m.
• VFW Post 9094’s annual Veterans Day program will begin at 11 a.m. in Hillsboro.
• Fairfield High School’s Veterans Day assembly starts at 2 p.m. RSVP to (937) 780-2966 and enter Grandle Gymnasium at 1:45 p.m.
• Highland County Veterans Services’ ninth annual Veterans Appreciation Night and Open House will be held from 4-7 p.m. in the Hi-TEC conference rooms, 1575 North High Street, Hillsboro. Light refreshments will be served. All veterans are invited to attend for an evening of saying “thank you” for your service (no RSVP required).
• All day: Several area restaurants are offering deals for veterans, including free meals at the Hillsboro Ponderosa; a 10-percent discount at the Hillsboro Gold Star Chili; and a 25-percent discount at the Hillsboro LaRosa’s.
Saturday, Nov. 13:
• The Brett Wightman Memorial 5K will be held in Sabina at 9 a.m. Registration ends Nov. 12 at 11:59 p.m.
• DAV Chapter 123’s annual Veterans Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Hi-TEC conference rooms, 1575 North High Street, Hillsboro. No RSVP is needed.
• A “Tribute to Those Who’ve Served” concert, featuring the Blue Steel band, will be held from 8-11 p.m. at the VFW Post 9094 in Hillsboro. A $5 cover charge is requested to benefit the VFW’s Veterans Relief Fund.
