Local church collects shoes for Haiti

Do you have a pile of shoes in your closet that are no longer being worn and are constantly in the way?

Don’t know what to do with them?

The Living Springs Community Church in Mowrystown is collecting shoes, any kind or condition, to send to Haiti as a part of their upcoming mission trip in November. On Saturday, Aug. 2, Living Springs will be holding a collection day at the Kroger store in Mt. Orab from 9 am until noon.

Living Springs has a goal to collect 2,500 pairs of shoes to provide to the people of Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.

Members of Living Springs Church will travel to Haiti on Nov. 13-22 for a missionary trip where they will help people both spiritually and also physically with the shoes they will provide.

The cost for each member is $1,600 for the trip to Haiti and back. Angie and Daniel Jean Claude are the local coordinators for the mission trip, and they along with Jamie Kennedy of South Dakota, formed the ‘Go Haiti’ organization in 2011.

This will be their fourth year in providing shoes and other supplies to the people of Haiti. Daniel is the youth minister at Living Springs, and he and Angie met during one of Angie’s trips to Haiti with FAME.

If you cannot make it to Mt. Orab on Aug. 2, Living Springs will be collecting shoes until Sept. 1.
