Janice, Sylvester Myers document careers in autobiographies

Hillsboro native Janice Myers will be publishing an autobiography after a long and illustrious career.

Myers is retired from the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, D.C. with 30 years of service. Prior to her retirement, she served as manager and staff liaison of the Student NEA, composed of 25,000 college students who were studying to become teachers. Following a majority vote of NEA staff managers, Myers served one term as president of the NEA Middle Management Association.

Between 1988 and 1991, Myers served as Senior Administrative Assistant to the Director of the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Joint Economic Commission (JECOR) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary (Arabian Peninsula Affairs), Department of the Treasury, in Washington, D.C.

From 1988 to 2012, Myers served as executive vice president of S.C. Myers & Associates, Inc., a construction management company she co-founded with her husband.

Myers is a former vice president of the Woman’s National Democratic Club of Washington, D.C. She served on former D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly’s Advisory and Finance Committees, the D.C. Chamber of Commerce Women’s Committee Advisory Board, the National Federation of Black Women Business Owners Advisory Committee and the Women’s Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra and is an active member of the United Nations Women Association, Gulf Coast Chapter.

Myers’ husband, Sylvester C. Myers, is the author of “From Coal Fields to Oil Fields & Beyond – A Life in Pursuit of All I Could Be,” published by RoseDog Books in March 2007. The book portrays three phases of his life, starting with growing up in a coal-mining community in McDowell County, Keystone, W.Va. for 15 years and in Bramwell, W.Va. for 60 years, including military service. The book also describes his 11-year work experience in the Middle East. The third phase of Mr. Myers’ life is founding S.C. Myers & Associates, Inc. in 1988, which provided 25 years of successful engineering services, including construction and cost management, to the US federal government and the private sector in Washington D.C.

Mr. and Mrs. Myers have five adult children and currently live in Bradenton, Fla.
