Humane Society Board of Directors thanks public for support, provides quarterly update

The Highland County Humane Society Board of Directors wants to thank all of those who have supported, adopted and promoted our efforts over the first quarter of 2022.
We would like to let the public know all of the things we have accomplished over the last few months. It takes a community and we couldn’t do it without you.
Animal adoptions included:
• 65 dogs adopted;
• 27 cats adopted;
• 19 animals sent to rescue;
• Total lives saved: 111.
With the addition of a second Rascal Clinic, we were able to facilitate spay/neuter of over 200 animals.
Facility Updates:
• Installed an additional phone line to meet customer demand.
• New Dumpster instead of several trash cans for cleanliness.
• Donation received and used for our cat house adding additional enrichment/play areas.
• Donation received and used to order additional storage shed for food storage.
Grants:
• Awarded and received $1,000 Ohio Pet Fund Grant for spay/neuter services - thanks for purchasing license plates.
• New partnership with Ohio Alleycat Resource to offer 10 free spay/neuter for feral cats starting in June - December 2022.
Staff/Other Updates:
• Promotion of Jacee Brock to Office Assistant to better meet the needs of the public.
• Development and research of area rescue organizations to help our dogs/cats find homes or fosters.
• Continued development of community outreach programs to assist in vaccinations, spay/neuter, food distribution.
• Continued work by Humane Agent Amanda Sheets in her role as Highland County Humane Agent.
How can you help?
Currently the Humane Society is in need of the following items:
• Transport vehicle to use for animal transport to vet and rescues.
• Facility cleanup - volunteers are needed for general yard work/cleaning.
• Supplies for enrichment activities - empty paper towel/toilet paper rolls, books, bubbles, treats, tires.
• General cleaning supplies - laundry soap, bleach, dish soap, cleaning sprays/wipes.
• Dog/cat needs: Clumping cat litter, puppy/kitten wet and dry food, toys, ropes, leashes, collars.
Drop off donations anytime during business hours Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
Monetary donations may be made via PayPal to highcohumanesociety@gmail.com or mailed to P.O. Box 471, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
The mission of the Highland County Humane Society reads as follows: Founded in 1969, Highland County Humane Society's mission is to provide a temporary home and treatment for adoptable cats and dogs, return lost animals to their owners when possible, place them in suitable homes, increase awareness of the humane treatment of animals and promote spay/neuter programs to reduce the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Highland County.
