HUBA BBQ Contest winners announced

Eight contestants competed in HUBA’s third annual BBQ Contest at Holtfield Station July 5.
There were two top awards up for grabs: the People’s Choice Award and the judge’s choice of “Top Butt Cooker.”
An estimated crowd of 200 people attended the event and joined in the fun of tasting the various entries of the contestants. In addition to the pork butt, many entrants treated the attendees with other specialties they prepared such as gumbo, ribs, briskets, chicken legs, and baked beans.
After the voting was completed, the team of Scott Parsons' Bibs and Ribs was the over whelming winner.
The judging team, which was headed up by Larry Chapman, had their work cut out for them as they judged each entry on taste, tenderness, and appearance.
Special attention was given to each entry to make sure they were smoked properly to have the token “Smoke Ring.”
After all points were tallied, The winner’s were as follows: Third place: Brett Prince and Phil Loudin; second place: Scott Parson’s Bib’s and Ribs; first place: Randy Jenkin’s team, Breaking Barbecue.
Over $700 was raised for HUBA (Hillsboro Uptown Business Association).
“We want to thank and recognize the many sponsor’s who contributed to the event and also thank those who attended and made a donation,” said John Hern, chairman of the event.
