Historical Society celebrates 50th year of Highland House Museum

Charles C. Gossett
1888-1974

Charles Clinton Gossett was a Highland County native son who made his name as the Governor of Idaho.

Gossett was born in Pricetown in 1888.

In 1906, he and a friend moved to Washington State and soon after to Idaho. There, they became identified with agricultural interests and introduced the method of modern irrigation to farmers.

He purchased a large farm near Nampa, Idaho and specialized in the raising of Idaho potatoes.

Gossett’s untiring efforts made him a very popular citizen. He served as Democratic lieutenant governor of Idaho and later served for two terms as a representative to Congress.

In 1944, he was elected governor of Idaho. After one year, he resigned to fill out the unexpired term of Senator John Thomas. He served as U.S. senator until 1947.
