Historical Society celebrates 50th year of Highland House Museum

With the ringing of the massive bell in front of the Highland House Museum by Justin Harsha at midnight Dec. 31, 2015, the yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Highland County Historical Society has transitioned into the 50th anniversary of the Society’s ownership of the Highland House Museum.

This is Hall of Fame Article II.

Lillie A. Faris
(1869-1945)

Lillie Faris was an editor, author, teacher, lecturer, and storyteller who wrote many materials for the Standard Publishing Company and led in the creation of many new products and materials for Christian education.

Lillie taught at the Cloverdale and Zink Schools in Dodson Township until 1910.

At that time, she left teaching for her publishing position where she edited Sunday School publications and introduced flannelboard religious instruction materials.

She also authored a six volume set of Standard Bible Readers, a volume of Quaker poems and numerous other teaching materials.

She lectured extensively around the United States.

Miss Faris was a graduate of Ohio University and was conferred an honorary degree from Cincinnati Bible Seminary.
