Frances Blackburn Hilliard
1907-1994

Frances Blackburn Hilliard was a historian of many of Highland County’s houses and a notable family historian.

Hilliard was born Jan. 29, 1907 in St. Louis, Mo.

She married Walter B. Hilliard of Hillsboro in 1963.

During the 1970s, Hilliard collected photographs and histories of many Highland County homes, organized them into two volumes and housed them at the Highland House Museum.

Many of the homes she depicted are now gone. The photographs she collected leave a lasting memory.

Hilliard also authored four books: “McNallys, Bearers of the Pioneer Spirit,” “The Family of James and Jane Rankin Blackburn,” “Blackburn – Yesterday and Today,” and a biography, “Stepping Stones to Glory – David Rice McAnally, M.D.”
