Hillsboro Woman's Club enjoys musical performance at May meeting

The music group “Family and Friends” opened the May meeting of the Hillsboro Woman’s Club on Tuesday, May 12 at the Senior Citizens Center.

When the musical group “Family and Friends” is present, they set the mood for what is to follow. This local group was organized 20 years ago, and they seemed to mellow with time.

The group, comprised of Sally and Billy Rogers and Johnny and Barry Jones, performed a delightful toe-tapping medley of songs, combined with stringed instrument music. A highlight of the program was an Irish melody featuring Johnny Jones.

A delicious luncheon followed, efficiently served by volunteers and staff of the Center.

Mary Todd Hardeman presided during the business session of the meeting, and she thanked the day’s Hostess Committee, which included Pauline Cameron as chair, Marjorie Cook, Louise Sprinkle and Frieda Redkey.

A signup sheet was passed for monthly committees for the next club year, with four meetings in the fall of 2015 and four more in 2016.

The club has been asked, as usual, to assist in staffing the Highland House Museum during the upcoming Festival of the Bells on July 3-5 and also, as usual, agreed.

Minutes of the previous meeting on April 14 were read and approved with one minor correction and the addition of one item under new business: Betty Ann Walker was approved to serve as the club’s treasurer for the next two years.

The current treasurer, Frances Larkin, gave an up-to-date report of the club’s treasury, which was followed by Hardeman’s reminder of the date for the June meeting. The next meeting will also be held at the Senior Center, with Vicki Knauff as chairperson, assisted by Toy Fender, Eleanor Williams and Jean Wallis.
