Hillsboro woman celebrates 100th birthday
Louise (Countryman) Borden celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Members of the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro surprised Borden with a celebration on Sunday after church. Members of her church family visited her home and sang her favorite hymn, "Because He Lives."
Borden's friends also held a balloon launch on her lawn and brought Borden her favorite dessert, Oreos, which were patented in 1912, three years before her birth.
Borden was born in a log cabin at “The Point,” which is close to the area of the Seven Caves on Route 50 east of Rainsboro. She was the fourth of 10 children.
She went to grade school at Rainsboro and later graduated from McClain High School.
Borden married Howard Elmore and had one child, Eileen. Howard died in 1976. She later married Donald Borden, who passed away in 1995.

Borden worked at the original Hillsboro Hospital for 10 years and then for Dr. Morris’ private office for 21 years.
Her church history is that she and Marge Collins Barney were both baptized in 1941.
Some stressful experiences in life for which God has seen her through are the many surgeries she has had to have.
Besides her daughter, Eileen, Borden has two stepdaughters, one stepson, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Several family members have traveled to Hillsboro to celebrate Borden's 100th birthday. She confesses to have had a very blessed life.
