Hillsboro Uptown Business Association finishes 2020 with holiday events

The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association (HUBA), in partnership with the City of Hillsboro, finished the 2020 holiday season with several Christmas-themed events. We want to thank everyone in the community and the local businesses who helped make these events possible.
On Nov. 21, HUBA held the 10th annual Snowflake Pageant at Good News Gathering in Hillsboro.
Winners are as follows: Hallie Seip, 3, of Hillsboro: Tiny Snowflake; Evelyn (Eve) Gadwa, 5, of Lynchburg: Little Snowflake, Alaina Best, 9, of Hillsboro: Miss Snowflake; Paiton Pullin, 11, of Midland: Snowflake Princess; and Madisyn Hollen, 15, of Hillsboro: Snowflake Queen.
Sponsorships and assistance were provided by: Cundiff’s Flowers &, Mother Cluckers Farmhouse, Dainty Daisy Boutique, Momma’s, 24 Deli & Pizza, Appearances Salon, Peoples Bank, Merchants National Bank, The Laurels of Hillsboro, The City of Hillsboro and Sarah Roe the Mortgage Pro. Thank you to Good News Gathering for the event venue, stage use and sound.
For the First Friday event in December, held Dec. 4, members hosted the City of Hillsboro and HUBA Uptown Christmas & Tree Lighting.
A description of the event said: “Join the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association and The City of Hillsboro to kick off this holiday season with a Christmas tree lighting, old-time photos with Santa provided by Merchants National Bank, a tour of children's Christmas activities and free carriage rides. Wandering Walrus will also be on site selling hot chocolate and hot apple cider.”
The tree was provided by Rhoades Ridge Farm. Guest speakers included Mayor Justin Harsha and Sarah Roe, President of HUBA. Caroling was provided by Hillsboro Christian Academy and Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church.

Lastly, on Saturday, Dec. 12, the City of Hillsboro and HUBA hosted the annual lighted Christmas parade. The theme was “Candy Land,” and the parade was in honor of the late Joe Mahan of Hillsboro. Several members of his family, including his mother, Helen Walton, led the parade as the grand marshal.
Special thanks to Jennifer Cundiff-Maurer for coordinating the applications and lineup; the Paint Creek Fire Department; the Hillsboro Police Department; the City of Hillsboro; The Highland County Radio Club; 24 Deli & Pizza; the Highland County Fair Board; Herb Day Radio; Brian Vance; Alex Butler; and all of the 30-plus participants of the parade.
The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association is open to any business owner in the Hillsboro area. Members meet the second Tuesday of every month at 24 Deli & Pizza at 1 p.m. Membership costs $50 per year, and applications will be available in January 2021.
