Hillsboro Rotary Club announces winners of annual Four-Way Speech Contest

Michael Mountjoy of the Hillsboro Christian Academy was the winner of the 2014 Hillsboro Rotary Club Four-Way Speech Contest, held Tuesday, March 11 at the Ponderosa Banquet Center.

Hillsboro High School student Michaela Chaney was second in the annual contest.

The students receive cash awards from the Rotary Club for their winning speeches.

The contestant must apply the Rotary Four-Way Test to the concepts of leadership, service to others and life experience. The Rotary Four-Way Speech Test is as follows:

• Is it the TRUTH?

• Is it FAIR to all concerned?

• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

• Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The speech is to be presented from memory without the aid of podium, notes, displays or props.

This year's judges were Nicole Roades, Katy Farber and John Hern.

The Hillsboro Rotary Club winner also has the opportunity to compete in the annual District Competition on March 30.

Hillsboro Rotary Club was founded in October 1936. The local club is a member of Rotary International, with its roots in Evanston, Ill.
